College Mentors for Kids, Inc., offers a unique and rewarding experience for college students to impact the life of a child and serve their community.
College Mentors for Kids is a campus-based program with chapters at 20 universities across Indiana and Illinois. First-through fourth-grade children from a local elementary school will come to your campus once a week during the academic year for a two hour activity. You will be matched one-on-one with a child (little buddy) and with your buddy family (a group of 10 mentor-child pairs) you will explore your campus and participate in activities focusing on higher education and career, culture and diversity, and community service.
Becoming a college mentor is a competitive process that includes extensive screening. After participating in the application and interview process, a criminal background check and sex offender registry check will be performed. If selected, you will participate in one-day training seminar before being matched with a child. Mentors are selected based on their level of maturity, flexibility, and commitment. Mentors are required to commit for one full academic year.
