Finish Line Opens Doors to Local Students

It’s not every day that you see high school students walking the halls of Finish Line’s corporate headquarters.  But, this past spring semester, that was just the case.  Finish Line’s corporate headquarters is located just down the street from John Marshall Community High School.  Employees interested in volunteering in the community contacted Micca Stewart at the Finish Line Youth Foundation to see what they could do.  From that, a unique idea was born.  Finish Line employees wanted to not only volunteer with local students at John Marshall, but also expose them to their own careers at Finish Line through a job-shadow program.

Administrators at John Marshall selected a group of 9th grade students to participate.  Three days a week after school, the students came to the Finish Line facility just down the street from their school.  At Finish Line, each student was matched with one or more employees in different divisions.  Students were able to learn and experience a variety of careers in action such as human resources, apparel merchandising, and real estate.  In addition, students and employees participated in weekly business etiquette classes.  Students from John Marshall were not only exposed to a variety of careers, but also learned about the life and culture of working in an office environment at Finish Line.

College Mentors for Kids staff planned and facilitated the training seminar in order to prepare Finish Line employees for their time and experience with the students from John Marshall.  College Mentors for Kids would like to applaud Finish Line for its commitment to the community and its initiative in true employee engagement!
