                          INSPIRE 2009 a Success!

On Saturday, February 7, College Mentors hosted Inspire 2009, its eighth annual silent auction and benefit dinner. Over four hundred guests and 50 college student mentors attended the event at historic Union Station in downtown Indianapolis.

Nine Little Buddies from IPS 114 with the University of Indianapolis Chapter excitedly arrived in style. From the moment they stepped out of the limo donated by Reeves Transportation, the smiles on their faces began to reflect the unforgettable night they were going to have. The Little Buddies enjoyed greeting guests as they arrived in the Grand Hall and shared their favorite part of the Mentor Program.

The evening began with the silent auction, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. Items in the silent auction ranged from sports memorabilia to jewelry to gift certificates and artwork. Two Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders assisted with the raffle for a David Yurman diamond necklace donated by Reis-Nichols Jewelers.

Fox 59 anchor Bob Donaldson served as emcee for the dinner and program portion of Inspire 2009. A mentor seated at each table shared with guests first hand testimonies of the impact College Mentors has made in the lives of both the children served and college student mentors.

The program included featured speakers Dr. Martin Jischke, Purdue University president emeritus, and Dr. Eugene White, superintendent of the Indianapolis Public Schools. College Mentors held a live auction for the first time with the help of Christy’s of Indiana.

Inspire 2009 raised over $95,000 which will assist in helping College Mentors continue to achieve its goals and expands the program to serve more children in Indiana and beyond.

College Mentors is grateful for all of the auction donors, sponsors, mentors, board members, committee members and volunteers who made this event a success! Without the involvement of these individuals and corporations, College Mentors would not be able to inspire, educate, and connect  youth to the opportunities of higher education.
